The New World has emerged as a major wine force in recent years. When the first European settlers emigrated to the far reaches of the globe they took wines with them. South Africa has the longest tradition of quality wine making in the New World, whilst today it is acknowledged that Australia has the world’s most professional wine making. We visit the historic Hunter Valley and Jacob’s Creek in the Barossa Valley to find out more about the pioneer spirit.
In North America, California is king, with the vast majority of wine being produced here. In South America, Chile and Argentina are renowned for their wines but Brazil is also producing some interesting tastes.
Elsewhere in the world, Central Europe and the Lebanon also prove surprising yet burgeoning areas to visit to enjoy the local wine.
